Calcudoku
What is Calcudoku?
Calcudoku is a mix of sudoku and mental arithmetic. You fill a square grid with the numbers from 1 up to the size of the grid, so that each number appears exactly once in every row and column. In each cage outlined in bold, the numbers must give the cage's target using the given operation (addition, subtraction, multiplication or division). For subtraction and division, the order does not matter.
If you like KenKen puzzles, Calcudoku is built on the very same gameplay. Every puzzle has exactly one solution. Start with the single-cell cages, whose value is given, then move on to the big products, which only a few combinations of numbers can make. The daily puzzle is 5×5 on Monday and Tuesday, 6×6 from Wednesday to Friday and 7×7 on the weekend; in free play you can start from 4×4.
FAQ
Does the order matter for subtraction and division?
No: in a cage marked 2−, the 5 and the 3 can stand in either order, because the smaller number is taken from the larger. Division works the same way.
How do I get started?
First fill in the single-cell cages, then look for cages that only one pair of numbers fits: on a 6×6 grid, for example, 30× can only be 5 and 6.
How big is the daily Calcudoku?
5×5 on Monday and Tuesday, 6×6 from Wednesday to Friday, 7×7 on Saturday and Sunday.
