Bridges
What is Bridges?
In Bridges you connect numbered islands with bridges. The number on each island tells you how many bridges start from it. Two islands can be joined by at most two bridges, and bridges only run horizontally or vertically. Bridges may not cross each other, and in the end all the islands must form one connected network, so that you can get from any island to any other.
The puzzle is known around the world as Hashi or Hashiwokakero, and it has long been a favorite among fans of Japanese logic puzzles. The key is counting each island's neighbors: a 4 in a corner gets two bridges to each of its two neighbors, just like an 8 with four neighbors. The daily puzzle is 7×7 on Monday and Tuesday, 9×9 from Wednesday to Friday and 11×11 on the weekend.
FAQ
Can bridges cross?
No, two bridges can never cross each other. That is why a bridge you build can block the way between two other islands.
Which islands should I start with?
Those with few neighbors or a big number: if an island has only two neighbors and a 4, a double bridge leads to each of them. Islands with a 1 or a 2 are often left until the end.
What counts as a finished solution?
When every island has exactly as many bridges as its number, and all the islands form one single connected network.
